2008 AFI nominations recognise WA

The 2008 Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards have been announced and Western Australian animation series Dogstar has been nominated for Best Screenplay in Television (writer Phillip Dalkin, episode 26) and actor Gary Files has been nominated for Best Guest or Supporting Actor in a Television Drama for his work on the series.

Western Australian ex-pat Elissa Down's film The Black Balloon, has picked up 11 nominations including Best Original Screenplay for writers Elissa Down and Western Australian Jimmy The Exploder.

WA actor Clarence John Ryan has been nominated for the Young Actor Award for the feature film September. Clarence was most recently seen in the WA children's series Lockie Leonard.
