Gary Sewell pitches his way to SPAA Fringe

03 October 2008

Western Australian filmmaker Gary Sewell's adult television series Broken People, won the WA heat of the Screen Development Australia (SDA) pitching competition. Gary receives a trip to attend the Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) Fringe in Sydney to pitch to key industry figures.

The winner of the competition will receive $2,000 cash plus free registration to the SPAA Conference November 12 - 14, 2008 and the opportunity to pitch during the Holding Redlich Pitching Competition.

Broken People follows a group of psychologist friends dealing with a bisexual love triangle, substance abuse, a miscarriage, sexual addiction, suicidal thoughts, unspeakable secrets and horrifying violence.

Gary is currently doing a Master of Professional Communications degree at the WA Screen Academy, specialising in Scriptwriting and Directing. He wrote Broken People as an assignment for the Television Drama unit taught by veteran scriptwriter/series creator John Rapsey (Ship to Shore, Sweat, Foreign Exchange) who thinks the project has serious potential to attract interest from a broadcaster.

Three of Gary's films will be shown at the WA Screen Academy's gala screening at the Luna on October 4.

The WA screen community will be barracking for Gary as he heads over to SPAA.
