Short and feature film marketing support

03 October 2008

ScreenWest's Short Film or Self-Funded Low Budget Feature Marketing scheme is designed to assist emerging filmmakers in effectively promoting their short or low budget feature film.  Applications close 5pm on Monday October 20.

Successful applicants receive a funding contribution of up to $2,000 towards the costs of festival applications, press kit collation, postage and dubbing. The grants allow filmmakers to put creative and clever marketing plans into motion and take their work on the competitive festival circuit.

Producer Jeff Asselin and writer, producer and director Julian Argus received a Short Film Marketing Grant for their film My Shout in 2007. Julian said the grant helped him afford the expenses associated with producing My Shout DVD's and press kit CD's to send to festivals. The funds also covered festival entry fees, not to mention the cost of postage.

Julian said the funding also helped with the costs associated with creating a My Shout film website, which has become a basic marketing requirement for any short film with many festivals asking for film website details in their application forms.

My Shout was accepted into the 2008 Rushes Soho Shorts Festival held recently in London along with another WA short, Edgar and Elizabeth. Julian flew to London for the screening and said of the experience, "I met a lot of fun and interesting people, received some great feedback, and I'm really looking forward to making another film!"
