A1.3 Project Development Investment Funding (Including Features)
Type: Investment
Funds Available: Up to $25,000 (per application)
Assessed: by Panel
Purpose and Scope:
ScreenWest assists with the development of quality film and television projects intended for production in Western Australia. It does so by providing financial support for well-conceived projects with market potential, which have a strong likelihood of being produced.
ScreenWest's main objective is to develop and sustain the local production industry.
Priority is given to applications from Western Australian residents. Non-Western Australian productions will only be considered where the Production Company brings demonstrated strong economic and/or ongoing creative opportunities to the State.
Project Development Investment Funding is an investment of funds to further develop the project. Funding is available, for example, for producer fee's, writer's fees, script editor fees, etc.
ScreenWest will generally only consider projects for one stage of development at a time, and support is not guaranteed for each successive stage of development. ScreenWest appreciates that some projects, particularly drama, have a better prospect of success if they have sustained and continued development support over a number of drafts. Ongoing development with ScreenWest is generally only supported where strong interest from a broadcaster and /or a distributor can be demonstrated.
In the highly competitive arena of feature film development, ScreenWest will invest in a limited number of projects per year. Films with strong cultural or economic benefits to the state will be given priority. Low budget locally-developed projects, especially those that could competitively participate in ScreenWest's West Coast Vision's initiative, will also be given priority.
Eligibility:
ScreenWest will give priority to projects that have a local producer as an active part of the team.
New writers without a track record or credits must submit a completed first draft before they can be considered for funding. Experienced writers with a strong track record of completed work and/or production credits will be considered for first draft funding, but would be required to submit a full treatment (approx. 10 to 25 pages) for assessment.
Projects will be assessed on:
- The quality of the idea;
- Whether the project has attracted a producer and director;
- The ability and/or track record of the writer and team;
- Market potential or interest and likely audience appeal;
- The likely chance of the project being realized in WA (e.g. in terms of budget, locations, etc);
- The participation of a local producer;
- Potential benefits to the WA Industry.
How to Apply:
All Development Fund applications must include:
- A completed General Application Form, including a Development Budget ;
- A one page detailed synopsis;
- The latest draft script or full treatment;
- An extended outline or preliminary treatment (in the case of documentaries);
